Picturing America
Fríggjadagin 12. mars kl. 17.00 letur upp amerikanska framsýningin Picturing America í Listaskálanum í Gundadali. Framsýningin er sett saman av National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) í samstarvi við American Library Association. NEH er ein sjálvstøðugur grunnur undir amerikansku stjórnini, ið skal fáa pening til vega fyri at stuðla gransking, undirvísing, varðveitslu og almennum verkætlanum í hugvísindi. Framsýningin, sum varð avdúkað av táverandi forsetanum, George W. Bush í 2008, hevur verið at sæð á fleiri enn 75.000 skúlum, bókasøvnum, listasøvnum og øðrum stovnum kring USA.
Picturing America er ein verkætlan, sum gevur næmingum og borgarum høvi til at læra um amerikanska søgu ígjøgnum amerikanska list. Listaligi arvur amerikanaranna – bæði málningar, høggmyndir, arkitekturur, handverk og foto – bjóðar eldri sum yngri eitt innlit í eyðkennini, hugmyndirnar og dreymarnar í stóra landinum vestan hav. 40 endurskapaðar myndir í bestu góðsku av týðandi amerikanskari list eru grundarlagið undir gransking av amerikanskari mentan, politikki og søgu gjøgnum tíðirnar á ein nýggjan og áhugaverdan hátt.

Í sambandi við framsýningina bjóðar Listasavn Føroya í samstarvi við Føroya Bjór eina spildurnýggja amerikanska øl á ferniseringini, tá eisini føroyska Nashville-countrystjørnan Hallur Joensen við bólki hevur framførslu.

Picturing America
The Faroe Islands Art Museum will on Friday the 12th March at 17.00 GMT open the American exhibition Picturing America. The exhibition is presented by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and is distributed in collaboration with the American Library Association. NEH is an independent grant-making agency of the United States government dedicated to supporting research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities. Unveiled by President George W. Bush in 2008, this exhibition has been shown in over 75.000 schools, libraries, art museums and other institutions around the USA.
Picturing America is an art program, where students and citizens will gain a deeper appreciation of USA’s history and character through the study and understanding of its art. The nation’s artistic heritage – such as paintings, sculpture, architecture, fine crafts, and photography – offers unique insights into the character, ideals, and aspirations of USA. 40 high-quality reproductions of notable American art gives an opportunity to learn about the history and culture of USA in a fresh and engaging way. The program uses art as a catalyst for the study of America – the cultural, political, and historical threads woven into USA’s fabric over time.
The US Ambassador to Denmark, Laurie S. Fulton, will open the exhibition.
The Faroe Islands Art Museum will in collaboration with the Faroese brewery Føroya Bjór invite guests for a brand new American beer at the opening, where also the Faroese Nashville-country star Hallur Joensen and band will have a musical performance.
